Why Terrifica?

Ciao bella gente,

I am beside myself with joyfulness to be asked to write this column for Izzo Terrifica.  What?  It’s not Izzo Terrifica?   I thought it was?  Va bene va bene, It’s Terrifica, I get it, it’s no Izzo.  But between you and me, Izzo Terrifica is a catchier.

I am Isabella Izzo, I’m gonna tell you a little bit about myself. I moved to San Francisco so I could meet music critic J. Poet but no one I met actually knew him.   It’s his nom de plume, he remains an enigma.  Someone told me they thought they saw him on the 4th of July one year in Terrifica, that made me really wonder about this place.  But back to me, I decided instead to  study buddhism, Taoism, hot yoga,  kathak dance, acupuncture, Gurdjieff, Zen, Spirit Rock -I thought it was a spiritual rock camp but it was just more meditation, Leonard Cohen,  social media, marketing, EMDR,  cold yoga aka Iyengar yoga,  integral something or other, unified physics, linguists and film-making.  One more thing about me, I am not into Burning Man.

One day I met two nice guys at coffee shop.  I told them all about myself and then an amazing thing began.  A bidding war to hire me for their start-ups,  neither seemed to care I hadn’t finished college, I had just what they wanted, I was “out of the box”.  I don’t think I was out of the box, you could throw a stone and hit someone with my educational background and personal interests.  I think most hipster Italian American girls go to Burning Man, I guess that was my edge.  Burning Man is not trending.   So fantastico I got a job with daily luke warm yoga.  And about three months after I started working,  the company was sold and I shall we say, became filthy rich.

So how did I end up in Terrifica and not in San Francisco or Palo Alto?  Well between you and me, it’s stressful in those towns, you have to work really hard all the time, even if your rich.  But not in Terrifica.  You can relax here.   I also keep hoping some day that I will find out if J. Poet is a local.

PS.  I don’t go to Burning Man because I am too cool or ahead of the curve of what’s losing it’s cool, I don’t go because camping no matter how you slice it, is hard work.   All the packing in and packing out, not this girl.
